How To Wear Pastels for Fall

I’ve talked a lot before about how I basically only wear the colors black, white, grey, and blush. They’re my favorite colors and easy to mix and match. They’re classics and make it easy to buy lots of pieces that work together. But having this classic style can make it weird when I try to dress for Fall. I always struggle with my desire to be head to toe in plaid everything with a pair of brown boots. But I know that I would never wear those pieces if I bought them. So I try to stay true to my own style and wear pastels for Fall.

The key to making pastels work in Fall or Winter is to pair them with something really dark and rich like black or navy. This makes for a more polished look, but also balances out a blush or light blue. Another way to wear pastels for Fall is to go with a fabric like wool or velvet that feels seasonally appropriate and warm. I am so in love with this blush oversized moto jacket and how it’s the perfect fit in my wardrobe. For a really casual look I went with a simple outfit and paired it with a white tee, black jeans, and black flats. This is what I’d call my cool weather uniform. I basically stick with the same basic outfit and interchange jackets as needed.

Another classic piece I love is a good light khaki trench coat. To me a trench coat is the perfect staple piece for Fall. One of my favorite Fall looks is dark jeans, a white top, and a trench coat. I’ve started mixing in some blush or grey sweaters underneath instead of my normal white tee. I love this pastel take on my go-to outfit.

Just because Fall is the time of oranges and reds and deep, rich colors doesn’t mean that works for everyone. Having style is about wearing what you like and what speaks to you. There’s no rule that says you can’t wear pastels for Fall so wear what works for you.
