If I had to describe my work wardrobe in one word it would be classic. I stick with really simple neutrals that I can wear 100 different ways. In short, my work wardrobe is adult Garanimals. You know the kids clothes that all match by the tags? I try to make it as easy on myself as possible during the week because I have a million other things to think about. So I’ve been trying to push myself a little to wear more prints for work.

I’m not going to jump right in with big loud prints. I’ve got to ease myself into it. So when I found this subtle black top I knew I had to give it a go. So it’s a little kitschy with the herons, but that’s what makes it fun. You can wear kitschy prints while still keeping it work appropriate. For work, I throw this top on with a pencil skirt or a pair of skinny black dress pants and a pair of black or nude heels. The key to making any trend or new style work is pairing them with tried and true classic pieces.

If you’re really hesitant about diving into prints for work, start with subtle small prints. Polka dots are always a standard print, maybe try some tiny stars or hearts. You would think those would be too young or not professional, but every time my work friends wear tiny prints like this EVERYONE compliments them. People love miniatures, you can’t go wrong with tiny prints.

If you’re feeling medium adventure, try something kitschy like my bird shirt. A great option is big flowers, like this or this. Or if you’re feeling extra kitschy, this pug top which I just bought. People love florals. “Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking.” But I’m all on board with florals for winter because this getting dark at 2PM doesn’t work for me. I have to find some happiness somewhere.

So you’re ready to jump into bold, lavish prints. Think Dolce & Gabbana or Gucci. This season is going to be all about luxe, over the top prints. Maybe I’m still feeling inspired by my time in Italy this summer, but I want everything to look extra Italian decadent. I picked up this top a few days ago and am dying for it with my Gucci belt.

Wearing prints for work can easily be outside your comfort zone, but sometimes you just have to take a fashion risk. You’ll be surprised by how many people compliment you or notice that you’ve changed your style when you try something new.

Are you a prints person or more in the classic solids group? Have you ever tried a crazy print and it paid off? Tell me in the comments!
